You can connect your school's administration software (known as a MIS or SIS) to Steplab using Wonde. This allows you to import your users into Steplab and automatically update their details whenever they change. This saves you time when onboarding your staff, and ensures Steplab remains in sync with your school's data.
How does the integration work?
Wonde provides a secure, centralised system that allows you to connect your school's MIS to applications like Steplab. Wonde acts as a bridge between your data and Steplab. If you don't already work with Wonde, you can get set up very quickly via their website.
How do I link my Steplab school to Wonde?
You will need to have the admin role to link your school on Steplab to Wonde. Learn more about how to assign roles.
Select 'Manage' from the main Steplab menu.
Select 'Mis connection'
From this page, you can submit a connection request.
Once the connection request has been made, an email will be sent to your school's Wonde admin. They will need to accept the request.
If this page shows that your school has not been linked to Wonde yet, please get in touch with us and we can set this up.
What can I do with the integration?

Select the Plus icon to add new users to your school
From this page, select 'Import users from Wonde'.
Once I import users from Wonde, will users in Steplab stay up to date?
Yes, users imported via Wonde will stay in sync with your school MIS/SIS. Their name and email address will be updated automatically.
Users' photos will be synced, but users can choose use their own photo instead, by uploading a new one on Steplab.
How can un-link Steplab school with Wonde?
Select 'Manage' from the main Steplab menu.
Select 'MIS connection'

Is my data secure / what does Steplab access?
Steplab only requests the staff data needed to keep accounts in sync (names and email addresses). Access is managed through Wonde and can be revoked at any time by removing the connection.
Are users' teams synced?
When you import users from your MIS into Steplab, you can choose to place them in the correct teams in Steplab, provided the names of the teams in your MIS match your team names in Steplab. Currently, team memberships are not synced, i.e. if a user's team changes, this change will need to be updated in Steplab manually.
Is pupil/student data imported, or only staff?
No. Only staff/employee records are imported into Steplab.
How often does the sync run?
Linked users sync automatically once per day.
I see a message that my connection is "still being audited."
This is normal right after approval — Wonde is preparing your school's data. Sync will start working once the audit completes.
The connection request is stuck on "pending" — what now?
The request must be approved by your school's Wonde admin. After approval, Wonde audits your data before sync becomes available, so there may be a short delay. If you've been waiting a while, contact your Wonde admin or [Steplab support].
Which email address does Steplab use if a user has several in the MIS?
Steplab uses the work/primary email recorded in your MIS. Home email addresses are ignored.
What happens when a member of staff leaves?
If a member of staff is removed from your school MIS/SIS, currently they will remain on Steplab. Soon, we will add the ability for you to automatically archive users when they leave, but this is not currently available.
What happens if a user already exists in Steplab when I import?
Steplab matches on email address. If someone you're importing already has a Steplab account with that email, they won't be duplicated — you'll be told the account already exists. If they're already linked to Wonde, you'll be directed to manage them through the MIS sync rather than re-importing.
Can two schools in Steplab import from the same Wonde connection?
Currently no. If your school has one MIS/SIS, but in Steplab is split into two schools, there is not a way for both schools to import data. You will only be able to connect one Steplab school to Wonde.
