Troubleshooting issues logging in to your Steplab account
I can't seem to sign in to my account
At the top of the Steplab sign in page, make sure the country selection is the same location as your school. For example, if your school is based in Australia, ensure that 'You're signing into Steplab Australia' displays. If you are travelling or using a VPN, the wrong country may be selected, which could cause your log in to fail.
I don't remember my password
If you cannot remember your password, head to the sign in page, then enter your email address. Then click the 'Forgotten your password?' button. If the email address you have entered is correct, you will be sent an email with instructions on setting a new password.
I don't remember which email address is used with Steplab
The easiest thing to do is to speak to your Steplab lead in your school, and ask them to check what email address has been used on your Steplab account. This guide: Managing users on Steplab details how a lead user can access your account details on Steplab.
I don't have a Steplab account yet or I'm not sure if I do
To create your Steplab account, your school lead will need to invite you to Steplab first. Once you have been invited, you should receive an email with a subject line starting: "Welcome to Steplab". If you haven't received an invite email yet, or need it to be sent again, please ask your school's Steplab lead to re(invite) you.
I requested a code to be sent to my email, but I haven't received it
This might be because your Steplab account hasn't been invited or created yet. You may need your school lead to invite you to Steplab first. If you have received an invite to join Steplab, you will need to click the link in this email to create your account. The other reason might be the email is in your spam folder, or has been blocked by your school network. If others in your school are not getting emails from Steplab too, this is probably the reason. You can send this guide to your school IT team to resolve this.
The link or code sent to my email isn't working
Sign-in links and codes work for 15 minutes. After that, you'll need to request a new one. In addition, each code / link can be used one time. If you see the message "You have already used this login link. Please request another one.", it means that the code or link has already been used, so you will need to request a new one.
Two-factor authentication (2FA)
About 2FA
An authenticator app is a small, free app on your phone (like Google Authenticator) that gives you a security code to prove it's really you.
Steplab supports 2FA (also known as 'MFA') via authenticator applications.
How to set up 2FA on your Steplab account
To use two-factor auth, you'll first need an authenticator app on your device. We recommend Google Authenticator, but many options are available. Your school IT team may have a preferred app.
1. From the main Steplab menu, select 'profile'.
2. From the profile page, select 'My settings':
3. Select 'Set up two-factor authentication':
4. The page will show a QR code. Open your authenticator app, and scan the QR code. Once you have done this a code will display on the app.
Back on Steplab, below the QR code, enter the code generated by the authenticator app and press 'Save'.
You have now set up 2FA on your Steplab account. Next time you sign in, you may be asked to enter a code from your authenticator app.
Troubleshooting 2FA
I have lost my authenticator app or I can't generate a code
If you are no longer able to generate a 2FA code for Steplab using your authenticator app, please contact Steplab support. Please note: as 2FA is a security feature, you may be required to prove your identity to restore access to your Steplab account.
