Where is my school's data stored?

Steplab hosts data in two regions: the UK and Australia.

Steplab runs in two separate hosting regions. Your school's data is stored in one of them, depending on where your school is based.

Our two regions

Who uses it

UK

London, United Kingdom

Schools in the UK, Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, Africa and South Asia

Sydney, Australia

aus.steplab.co

Schools in Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific Islands, and East and Southeast Asia

Both regions are hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS). Each region has its own separate database and file storage. Your school's accounts, coaching and learning records, and uploaded files and videos are all stored in your region.

How is my school's region chosen?

We choose your region based on your school's country when your school first joins Steplab. It doesn't change if staff travel or sign in from another country.

Signing in to the right region

The sign-in page picks a region based on where you are when you visit it. If you're travelling or using a VPN, you might be sent to the wrong one. Check that the top of the sign-in page shows your school's country, and use 'Change country' if it doesn't. See Signing in to Steplab for more help.

Other services we use

A small number of trusted services help us run Steplab, such as customer support and product analytics tools. Some of these may process limited information outside your region. You can find the full list of these services, along with more about how we keep your data safe, on our security page.

Can my school change region?

If your school is in the wrong region, or you have questions about where your data is stored, please contact our support team and we'll help.
